People Pattern’s First Annual Retreat: Bison Grove 2014

People Pattern hosted our first annual retreat last week, held at Bishop’s Lodge Ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The goal of the event was to bring together our team with leading representatives from agencies, brands, and data scientists to talk about strategies for 2015.

Internally, we heard from People Pattern CEO Ken Cho, who emphasized the importance of brands understanding people. We also heard from Director of Marketing Lara Hendrickson on the transformation of market research; Senior Strategy Manager Allison Squires on audience intelligence trends; and Director of Engineering Joey Frazee on breakthroughs in our people-based dataset.

People Pattern Director of Data Science Elias Ponvert delved into the guts of how a constellation of data sources are normalized through advanced techniques in order to produce insights relevant to marketers. Chief Data Scientist Jason Baldridge shared insights into the innovative techniques and data science methodologies that he and his team have pioneered in building the People Pattern platform.

Externally, we heard from a group of fantastic guests. Umang Shah, Director of Global Social Media and Digital Marketing at Campbell Soup, shared a little about his experience working with People Pattern in his time at Walmart. Shah emphasized the importance of understanding your consumer. Kate Donaho, Creative Director and Brand Strategist, led a discussion on a needed shift in market research–to take information from being interesting to being actionable. Bryan Stolle, General Partner at Mohr Davidow Ventures, talked about analytics trends in the VC world. Agency panelists Andrew Deichtman, Mother NY; Mark Kurtz, Gage; Stewart Pearson, Wunderman brought a great conversation to the room and offered insights into how advertising is evolving to meet the growing demand for data-driven campaigns.

Kate Niederhoffer, Founder of Sooth, focused on privacy and creepiness. David Carson, Founder of Heavy and trailblazing marketer, spoke to Youtube as the next great source for unstructured data. Nathan Eide, President of the Minnesota Interactive Marketing Association, focused on trends in marketing. Phillip Resnik, Professor at The University of Maryland and founder of React Labs, offered up why the world needed People Pattern to read and understand patterns within individual and group behaviors. Steve Blackmon, Director of Data Sciences at the W20 Group, helms the team that crafted much of RedBull’s audience insights platform, and he virtually welcomed Christian Ulstrup, Product Manager at Red Bull Media House, to share how People Pattern’s API has augmented Red Bull insights.
