When people typically think of Valentine’s day they think of romance and roses with dinner at a fancy restaurant. But let’s be honest, most of us end up spending it at home with our favorite streaming service, such as Netflix or Hulu. This year we decided to use People Pattern to dig in and see if our assumptions hold true. Who spends Valentine’s day on a date with their streaming service?
To understand this we analyzed the social media followers of a few of the major streaming services and narrowed down our audience to those most interested in dating and movies. We determine interest based on their posting habits and content. Although this audience was split down the gender gap pretty evenly it did lean a little heavier on the male side.
“Who spends Valentine’s day on a date with their streaming service?”
So who are these guys and what are they talking about? For this group of ‘streaming valentine men’, 90% of them fall into one persona category…which we called ‘The grown-up millennial’.
These guys are clearly into movies and television, which is why they curled up under a blanket with their favorite streaming service. We were able to learn that these were lonely men in their 30’s who were talking about the downsides of being alone on valentine with #love… Once they were done venting they would curl up with their favorite #marvel movie. Have Thor and Black Panther become the modern-day romance movies for millennial men? But they’re also constantly talking about art and family, which means that they’re sensitive and ready to take that big step into family life. Come on ladies, looks like these modern day millennials are ready to make a commitment and start a family. Maybe you can win them over with a build-a-bear of their favorite Marvel character.
Speaking of millennials and growing up, new show Grownish was also a hot topic but more amongst the female group and more-so relating to the breakup issue…
