Tents, banners and stage structures come down as the 22nd Annual SXSW comes to a close. As folks return home to far flung cities around the world, they will do so full of inspiration and insights into the cutting-edge technologies and creative insights that will define 2015.
Among the top trends at SXSW, products and services catering to alternative ways to experience events garnered a lot of buzz. Video and digital entertainment appeared to drive much of the innovations showcased during the events. We have selected our top choices to help you stay connected below.
Meerkat, the live streaming video app, made a splash this year at SXSW Interactive. AdWeek reported that the app “restored faith in the startup magic” of SXSW, while TechCrunch lauded the app’s ability to trump Fortune 500 marketing budgets with simple, word of mouth marketing.
Concert Streaming in 4K is Here
On the comeback, Dell partnered with Intel, Red Digital Cinema and Sharp Electronics to live stream the first-ever concert in 4K at the Fader Fort. In addition to having the ability to view the lineup musical acts streamed live on the Fader website, the partnership included live streamed concerts to several local Austin businesses.
DirectTV Digital Entertainment Lab
Entertainment and technology collided at DirectTV. The brand offered immersive experiences to convention-goers by providing virtual reality headsets that transformed the television experience.
The ways in which we experience events have changed. Last year, Snapchat entered the space and began to play publisher with shared, user-generated, video content and a more ad-friendly platform. More recently, Twitter purchased Periscope, a company that will enable Twitter users to live stream videos with the benefit of having Twitter’s real-time, global reach. Emerging technologies in streaming are providing users the ability to create impactful content easily.
