Is It Love, or…Netflix?

Not sure whether the water-cooler conversations are just friendly or if there could be something…more?

Romance can be hard. With so much on the line, it’s best to have a good idea of where you stand before you put yourself out there.

For all those looking for love this weekend but not wanting to stray far from the couch, People Pattern has your back. Pulling from social data, People Pattern analyzed the followers of Netflix who were also talking about Valentine’s Day. Based on a sample of 10,000 fans, nearly 3,000 people mentioned Vday, making them prime pals for your Valentine’s video binge.

So, who are these people?

The Netflix audience that is talking the most about Valentine’s Day is largely made up of people who fall within the Community Supporter persona segment. Most of these folks are young professional men living in urban areas. Interests in humor, image sharing and celebrities suggest these guys tend to stay on top of their popular culture game. In romance, this crowd is looking for equal parts humor and warm-and-fuzzies.

Suggested Films: When Harry Met Sally; Wedding Crashers

The second most common kind of person planning on a Valentine’s Netflix binge is the Mature Millennial. Most of the people who fall within this persona segment are young women interested in fashion, design and beauty. Los Angeles represents a reality where anything is possible–as such, many of these young professionals have left home to chase their Hollywood dreams. The Mature Millennial is looking for love in the City of Angels.

Suggested Films: Crazy, Stupid, Love; Pretty Woman

Behind the Community Supporter and the Mature Millennial is the Sports Fan. Making up roughly 10% of the Netflix audience that is also talking about Valentine’s Day, the Sports Fan is still mourning the loss of his beloved Seahawks. Between handling the responsibilities of his mid-level finance job, he is tuning in to play a quick game of World of Warcraft and picking up another case of Coors. When it comes to romance, the Sports Fan likes to show his softer side.

Suggested Films: Sleepless in Seattle; The Notebook
